Face-to-face training on web strategies and social media for LLP projects in Leuven, Belgium
Web2LLP's week-long course on webstrategies and social media for LLP projects took place on 18-23 February in Leuven, Belgium, where 8 highly motivated LLP project managers from 6 European countries (Austria, Germany, Greece, Italy, Latvia and Spain) worked together in groups to create dissemination strategies and action plans to improve the dissemination and reach of lifelong learning projects.
During this intensive social media course project managers of existing and future lifelong learning projects learned how to create a dissemination strategy and action plan, and how to use social media networks and tools to their benefit. The 8 participants discussed their current projects and how they have been using social media for dissemination purposes up to now, already pointing out some needs and questions that are common among LLP project managers. The participants learned about the value of building a solid web strategy within the framework of an LLP project and discussed how they can cope with some of the typical challenges when integrating social media in a project's dissemination plan.
The participants were introduced into how LLP projects can increase their audience and participation through social media, and how some tools can help make social media presence easier to manage, and how to integrate social media on a project website or blog. There were several focus sessions on specific tools and social media approaches such as curation tools (Scoop.it, Paper.li, Diigo), Linkedin, Facebook, Vimeo and YouTube. Attention was also given to measuring the reach of your social media activities and updating your strategy accordingly, and as social media is about sharing content and media, an IPR quiz was organised to increase the participants' awareness and knowledge on copyright and intellectual property issues with regard to digital content.
During the course the participants worked together in small groups in which they developed a dissemination strategy and action plan on fictional LLP projects, for which they also created a project blog/website, several social media channels using the tools that were discovered during the week, and they presented their approaches to an invited audience at the end of the week, followed by a reception.
This course was led by domain experts, Gary Shochat from P.A.U. Education and Katerina Zourou, Web2Learn, training support was provided by Nikki Cortoos, Alberto Nantiat, Joasia van Kooten and Mathy Vanbuel from ATiT and the course was organized by Sally Reynolds from ATiT.
Beside domain experts and trainers from within the Web2LLP partnership, guest speakers included Bernard Van Isacker (PhoenixKM), Kamakshi Rajagopal (Open University, The Netherlands) and Valentina Garoia (European Schoolnet).
